Grade “A” Western Red Cedar
There is no other company in the infrared sauna industry that’s involved in the lumber industry like Health Mate. Health Mate not only cares but is extremely specific in its selection process. All Health Mate infrared saunas are constructed with grade “A” cedar, NO. 2 clear.
Why Cedar? Western Red Canadian Cedar is the only wood that should be used in the manufacturing of a sauna box because it is naturally antimicrobial.
All other wood types sold in the infrared sauna industry are not naturally antimicrobial, and that is a huge problem for mold and mildew. This makes using woods that are not antimicrobial extremely unsafe and defeats the benefits of using an infrared sauna.

There are many variables when purchasing and pricing lumber: grade, cut and source. The base cost of cedar is close to 40% higher than basswood and 53% higher than hemlock.

“I heard that cedar is bad for me?”
This is completely false. Rod Stirling, Senior Scientist at FPInnovations explains Western red cedar does not contain the volatile oils cedrene and cedral. Adverse health effects are caused by airborne dust. Health Mate does not ship you a box full of Western Red Cedar dust.

Cytochrome C Oxidase (CCO) Activation by Red and NIR Light
Published studies show benefits from almost all wavelengths in the mid-600nm range to the low to mid 800nm range. That’s because these wavelengths have the greatest effect on the cellular respiration process.
In the graph above, at certain wavelengths, there are several peaks in the cytochrome c oxidase (CCO) absorption of photons. The highest of these peaks are in the ranges of 660-670 nm and 830-850 nm. These wavelengths have been proven to produce substantial improvements in cellular function, resulting in a wide range of health benefits.

- Benefits are not achievable with distance
For a food heat lamp to have the benefits most brands claim, your body has to be within 6-10 inches from the lamp.
